I love the song ‘Naked heart’ of Julie Miller. At one point she sings: ‘If you find out who I really am… If I show you what I keep in the dark… Stripped of my defenses, can your love really clothe my naked heart?’
It’s such an honest question. In Matthew 5:8 Jesus says: ‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God’. Sometimes we tend to want to make everything in our life look beautiful and okay, because when everything looks perfect, we feel we can present ourselves to God and the church.
Yet being truly ‘pure in heart’ doesn’t mean having it all together. Being pure in heart means being authentic and honest towards God, even, or especially, in the areas of our life where we feel weak or come up short.
So that His love can clothe our naked heart.
Because that’s what He does. When we open up our heart to Him where we feel shame and weakness, He comes and clothes our heart with Jesus’ blood and makes us pure for Him.
From that place of confidence in His deep love for us, in the midst of our weakness, clothed with His blood, we will be able to see Who God truly is.
Are you pure in heart – are you authentic and open towards God in your weakness?
Then get ready to see Him and feel His love wash over you. You are His beloved and you can be sure His love will clothe your naked heart.
