“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself. “
1 Corinthians 6:19 (NLT)
Have you ever wondered why you do not belong to yourself? It is because someone else has bought you. When you are bought by someone else, you do not possess yourself anymore.
Text: Derek Prince
Who bought you? Jesus. And what did He pay for you? His life, His blood. So when you are bought by Jesus, you no longer belong to yourself. If you do belong to yourself, you are not bought with the blood of Jesus. You cannot belong both to yourself and to God. God wants you to himself. He has paid the price with His precious life blood. If you want to hold on to your own life, then the price that is paid does not apply to you. You cannot have both. If you belong to God, you do not belong to yourself. If you belong to yourself, you do not belong to God.
“For God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”
Verse 20
When Jesus died on the cross, He paid the full price for complete redemption. He redeemed not just a part of you. He redeemed you fully – spirit, soul and body. He died to redeem you. When you accept that redemption through His blood, you no longer belong to yourself, but you are His possession from that moment on. Both your spirit and your body belong to God, because Jesus paid the price for your life. That gives us a great responsibility, but at the same time also a great relaxation and safety; after all, you are Gods possession, and He cares for everything that is His with great attention!
Prayer of the day
Thank you Lord, that You bought me. I think deeply about the price that You paid for my redemption. I will be careful with Your possession; for there is paid a high price for me. Thank You for the safety and care that You give me every day. Amen.
