When you go through hard times, it can sometimes be difficult to keep holding on to God. I have noticed how important it is to know Gods Word then, or to have received it when you were a child. Because it is those words to which you can hold. I was reminded of the faithfulness of God again, through the words of a teacher, written in a poetry album. They are words from Psalm 146 that give comfort and a perspective.

Gods Word can help you through anything
It is Gods Word, the Bible, that can help you through anything. It is in Gods Word, where you can see His faithfulness again. God tells us who He is, what He did for us and also what He is going to do. During times where you may feel like you have not been reading the Bible a lot, because you are consumed by worry or sadness, it is also Gods Word, which you have read before, that can lead you through it.
Faithfulness from generation to generation
Psalm 146 is a psalm I have sung a lot as a child in elementary school or Sunday school. In this psalm you can read how God stays faithful, from generation to generation. The psalm shows us how God can change our lives (prisoners are freed, the blind can see, etc.) and how He loves us as a Father.
But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God. He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever. He gives justice to the oppressed and food to the hungry. The Lord frees the prisoners. The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are weighed down. The Lord loves the godly. The Lord protects the foreigners among us. He cares for the orphans and the widows, but he frustrates the plans of the wicked. The Lord will reign forever. He will be your God, O Jerusalem, throughout the generations. Praise the Lord! (Psalm 146:5-10, NLT)
Psalm 146
It is so beautiful how the writer of this psalm keeps trusting in God. Apparently, you are joyful when you do that. A picture is being painted here of a God who has been faithful from the beginning in the Bible, as the God of Israel. What God started then, He will not let go of. Gods Word reminds us that that faithfulness will always be there. You will definitely see that when you read the Bible from cover to cover. When I read what God has in mind for me and how He sees me in Psalm 146, then I want to keep trusting God. His Words will turn out to be the truth.
I hope that you may hold on to him through everything, that His Word will give you grip in certain situations.
Through it all, through it all,
I’ve learned to trust in Jesus,
I’ve learned to trust in God,
I’ve learned to depend upon His Word.
Get to work!
