“As Jewish families come together to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, it is a moment of renewal”, British Prime Minister Liz Truss started her Rosh Hashanah message to the Jewish people. The Jewish new year started Sunday evening at sundown.
In her message she promised to champion the British Jewish community and said she is “determined to stamp out antisemitism. I will be a staunch friend of Israel and I will always be on your side.” She concluded her message by saying: “In that spirit, let me wish you all Shana Tova”.
British embassy in Jerusalem
Just this past week Israel National News reported that Truss told the Israeli PM Yair Lapid that she is “reviewing moving the British embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem”. In May 2018 former US President Trump did the same with the US embassy, with which he recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Truss has stated she understands the “importance and sensitivity” over the location of the embassy.
